Smith bows out of Caribbean tourney
Bermudian teenager Tyler Smith was eliminated in the singles of the TIHTA ITF Junior Tennis Tournament in Aruba yesterday.The 15-year-old eighth seed lost to second seed Madison Bourguignon of the United States, 6-2, 6-3 in a quarter-final match, having earlier beaten another American Laura Proctor 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 in the first round and Maria Jose Colorado Zavala of Mexico 6-1, 6-0 in the second round.However, Smith has reached the semi-finals of the girls doubles with partner Madrie Le Roux of South Africa, having beaten Ana Sofia Cordero of Puerto Rico and Lotte Reek Van of Aruba 6-1, 6-0 in their opening match, and then Americans Lauren Proctor and Taylor Shukow 6-3, 3-6 (10-7) in the quarter-finals.Smith and Le Roux are the top doubles seeds while Le Roux is also the number one seed in the singles where she has reached the semi-finals.
