Team have lacked commitment, says Russell

Bermuda Hogges skipper Antwan Russell has called on his troops to end the season on a high and bring an end to their ten-game losing streak.Hogges currently prop up the Mid Atlantic Division table with five points from 13 games, losing nine successive games on the trot including two matches at home after a promising start to the season. They have a chance to steady the ship, starting tonight against Long Island Rough Riders, with three home games remaining on their schedule, but with nothing left but pride to fight for.Russell, who missed a portion of the season through injury, insists they will look to get maximum points from their remaining games and that their poor results haven’t been for a lack of trying.“We will try our best to get a win and end the season on a high, we have underachieved in my eyes but there are still games to be played and we want to put our best foot forward in the dying stages,” said Russell.“It’s not a case of us not playing good football, it’s more of a case of us not putting out best foot forward. “While results haven’t gone the side’s way, the talisman striker believes it is a lack of application in determining moments of a game that has been the team’s demise. The learning curve for the Hogges has been a steep one given the lack of depth in the ranks, but the remaining games will be about respectability according to the captain.“We have lacked commitment and I think that guys weren’t prepared to go the extra mile to get the results required, it’s really a mentality thing and I hope we can end the season on a high.“It is a learning curve for us and I just hope we can learn from all of this in terms of getting the results that will make or break you.“We would like to do both, win our remaining games and end the season on a high regardless of the results but in the end it’s up to us as the players to put forth the effort.“Looking at the table we want to earn respectability, it’s about the score telling the result because we have played good ball but haven’t gotten the results, but we are trying to end on a high.”Hogges take on Rough Rider tonight at BAA Field. Kick off is 7pm.
