Logie named Canada coach
Former Bermuda national coach Gus Logie has been appointed the new head coach of Canada’s national team.It will be Logie’s second tenure with Cricket Canada having previously coached the national team during the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa.Since his Bermuda departure, Logie has worked as a coach in Jamaica.Logie said: ”Many thanks to Cricket Canada for giving me the opportunity to work with the many talented players within the Canadian system.“Our vision is to produce in Canada a championship team with technical skill and the mental and tactical awareness to compete at the highest level by developing the mind to win, the will to succeed, and the confidence to make it happen”.Cricket Canada vice president and High Performance manager, Vimal Hardat was optimistic about the appointment and provided the following comments.“Gus is a true champion, who has a habit of winning as a member of the champion West Indies team in 1980s and as a coach, by leading West Indies to the 2004 Champions Trophy,” he said.“We have huge confidence in Gus and his coaching capabilities. He comes in with great knowledge and we will give him time to settle in with his ideas to help us achieve the target of being a leading associate country.”n Fort Lauderdale, Florida Sunil Narine said he was “still high on confidence” as he prepared to face New Zealand in the Digicel Twenty20 International Series in the United States today.The fledgling off-spinner found the going a bit tough on the recent trip to England, but is sure he will bounce back against the Black Caps.“It’s a matter of confidence and I’m feeling quite confident as we get ready for the weekend,” said Narine.“I didn’t do as well as I hoped in England, but there is still a lot left in me. I know the areas which I have to work on. Basically, it’s just a matter of going back and looking at what I did well against Australia.”The 24-year-old was sensational against Australia earlier this year and West Indies tied the Digicel One-day International Series 2-2 with the World’s top-ranked ODI side. He also performed well in the Digicel T20I Series against the Aussies which ended level 1-1.Narine was the leading wicket-taker in the ODIs, with 11 wickets in five matcheslast March. Last month, he was equally brilliant and was named Most Valuable Player of the Indian Premier League, as he bowled Kolkata Knight Riders to the title.
