Health Minister Zane DeSilva has received an honorary degree in international commerce and global development from Niagara College.Mr DeSilva delivered the convocation address at the Ontario, Canada college last Friday.He advised graduating students to never stop learning and to work to improve the world.“Your role is not merely to find a place in today’s world,” Minister DeSilva said. “Your role is to remake this world, strengthen this world, and to leave a much better inheritance to the generation that follows.”With his wife and two children in the audience, Mr DeSilva also urged students to appreciate the work their families do for them. He described his family as his “cornerstone” and a vital source of support during his business and political endeavours.Despite the difficulties new graduates face in the current job market, the Minister encouraged graduates to remain optimistic about their futures.“This is not the time for pessimism or doubt,” he said. “This is the time for enthusiasm, this is the time for creativity and this is the time for hard work.”The graduating students were from the college’s business, hospitality and tourism studies programmes. There were 14 Bermudian students at Niagara College during the past school year; approximately 15 are expected to attend in September.
