Couple celebrate 60 years of marriage with sixth visit to Bermuda

Welsh visitors Peter and Marie Egan decided there was only one place in the world to go to celebrate their 60th anniversary.They consider Bermuda one of their favourite places in the world having visited the Island six times.The couple, from Hay-On-Wye, Powys, met at a dance in England when they were 19.“I kept saying that I would really like to go back to Bermuda,” said Mrs Egan, a retired midwife. “He kept saying, ‘stop talking about Bermuda.’”Mr Egan, a retired engineer, secretly went out and bought tickets to Bermuda and gave them to Mrs Egan on their official anniversary, March 29.“I was really surprised,” said Mrs Egan. “We have spent so many happy times in Bermuda.”In previous years they stayed at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, and also guest houses. This time they decided to stay at Grotto Bay Hotel.“We have been very happy,” said Mrs Egan. “The staff here are so nice.”The Egans said the secret to a long and happy marriage was staying friends with one another.“He is my best friend,” said Mrs Egan.
