Island’s football fraternities set for Classic clash

The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will look to exact revenge on their Kappa Alpha Psi rivals tonight at Bernard Park after losing the inaugural Bascome/Lowe Charity Classic last year.A third minute penalty by Nigel Burgess was enough to give the Kappas the victory, but they will be hard pressed to make it two wins out of two when the teams renew acquaintances.Tonight’s match has an added twist, with local charities picking a side to cheer on with the chance of winning the grand cash prize at the end.“Last year was the first year so we are building on it,” said Kappa representative Craig Tyrell. “This annual event has a great twist, the two fraternities are committed to the community as you know, but this event is designed to get various charities out to watch and support.“Charities are invited to come and pick a team, and all of those charities that select the winning team will then go into a draw to win $1,000.“On behalf of both fraternities I invite everyone to come and check it out, in these times every bit helps and the Kappas and Alphas want to do our part.”Suiting up for the Alphas includes names such as Dwayne and Wayne Caines, Lou Mathews, Lloyd Holder and Daniel Reece, while the Kappas will rely on Richard Scott, Troy Harvey, Ray Jones, Nigel Burgess and Stephen Coddington to defend their title.Kick off is 6pm.
