Mum who snatched son is jailed
The mother of tug-of-love teen Jasai Burrows has been sentenced to 200 days in a Florida jail for abducting him.Kim Sakena Swan, 40, snatched her son and disappeared with him at a Florida courthouse in May 2011.The court hearing was supposed to effect the return of Jasai, now aged 14, to his father Giovanni Burrows in Bermuda.Mr Burrows had been trying to get Jasai back from her ever since 2001. Mr Burrows had been granted full custody of his son that year, but Swan fled with him to the US.The police tracked down Swan and Jasai in Jacksonville, Florida, in February 2012. The boy was reunited with his father later that month.Swan, of St Petersburg, Florida, was charged with removal of a minor from the state during child custody proceedings.She initially pleaded not guilty and was due to go on trial yesterday.Instead, she changed her plea to guilty and was sentenced to 200 days, plus a $550 fine.Mr Burrows could not be reached for comment yesterday.
