Don’t blame the pitbull

June 1, 2012Dear Sir,Some animals, including humans, become aggressive when they are abused. Some choose to submit. There is proof that when an animal — and that includes the human animal — is abused, it becomes dysfunctional in one way or another. We have dangerous animals out there and we have dangerous human beings out there all for the same reason. Usually they have been victims of abuse or in some cases there is a genetic defect which is usually bad breeding. The “pit bull” has been a victim of abuse for years because of its strength and its loyalty. If it is not a “pit bull” being abused by a sick human, who is very often caught up in the cycle of abuse, the sick human will find something else to abuse — usually another vulnerable victim such as a child or another animal. It has been proven that human abusers will abuse just about anything and the “pit bull” is the victim of choice because it is strong and loyal. So, I agree with Minister Bean. Well done. Stop blaming the “pit bull” for the human weaknesses. Stop displacing the problem. Stop the humans and the media from making this “breed” into a monster. They are bred and inbred illegally by humans, kept in vile conditions by humans, treated terribly by humans and are bought and sold for higher than normal prices by humans. They are hidden away because of the unnecessary hype about the “breed” and when one poor victimised animal does escape from its world of horror, we expect it to be nice and well adjusted? Come on people, use some common sense! Stop discriminating against the victim. Help it as Minister Bean is trying to do.DIANA HESLOPDevonshire
