Stargazers will be treated to an uncommon event today, as the planet Venus makes a six-hour pass across the Sun.The planetary alignment is not set to return until the year 2117.It was reportedly observed from the Island in the year 1761, as recorded by the Bermuda Historical Society.According to US astronomer James Morrison, the sighting recorded here was “the very first non-scientific observation of a transit of Venus made in the West”.The planet’s passage across the Sun today should only be viewed through a custom-designed filter.
