42 Bermudians win Digicel contest to star in ad alongside Bolt

World's fastest man: Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt

Bermuda-headquartered Digicel yesterday announced more than 500 people — including 42 Bermudians — have been selected from its “Run to London” Facebook contest to star in an ad campaign alongside the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt. The fans were selected from across the Caribbean and Central America. The competition, which ran over five weeks, received an overwhelming number of entrants, Digicel said.“Close to 17,000 fans visited Digicel’s Facebook page — uploading and posting photos showing their best ‘running pose’ — in the hopes of being selected as one of the lucky winners to be featured in an advertising campaign with Usain Bolt or win cool prizes such as handsets courtesy of Digicel and Samsung,” Digicel said.Digicel said the advertising campaign was a first for the company, featuring user-generated content as the main element.“It will serve to galvanise support for Digicel Brand Ambassador and the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, in his quest for Olympic success later this summer,” Digicel said. “The advertising campaign will debut across Digicel’s markets in the Caribbean and Central America starting in June.”In the second phase of the campaign, which runs through to the end of June, Digicel and Samsung are giving customers the chance to watch the Olympics in style with their very own 40-inch Samsung LCD televisions, as well as cool phones and tablets, through a range of promotional activities taking place across all the Caribbean and Central American markets.
