Delta Air Lines will operate daily flights between Bermuda and New York’s LaGuardia Airport, beginning next year. The service will run year-round, beginning April 8.Flights are scheduled to leave LaGuardia at 9.55am, arriving in Bermuda at 1.05pm.The return flight will depart for New York at 2.05pm, with a scheduled arrival of 3.40pm at LaGuardia. The new flights will provide new options for those travelling between Bermuda and New York, as American Airlines currently runs daily flights between the Island and New York's JFK International Airport.Delta announced the new flights as part of its expanded service out of New York to Bermuda and destinations in the Caribbean and Florida.Senior vice president of Delta, Gail Grimmett said: “We’re excited to be announcing new and expanded service to these popular leisure destinations at the same time we’re building our new domestic hub at LaGuardia Airport.“It’s another step toward achieving our goal of becoming the preferred airline in New York.”The Ministry of Transport did not comment on the matter as of press time last night, but they have announced a press conference to be held this afternoon.Hotel Association President John Harvey welcomed the news of the additional flights.“This is great news as we need as much airlift from the New York area as we can possibly get,” Mr Harvey said. “It now behoves all of us to ensure that this flight is successful and I am sure plans will soon be made with all of the stakeholders to address this.”
