Ah Empire Day, aka May 24, aka Bermuda Day, aka my “National Freeloading Day”. What can I say about Bermuda Day 2015?

The first word that comes to mind is “gratitude” to many.

First, I would like to thank the organisers of the annual Abbleby Bermuda Day Half-Marathon Derby. Every year they put on a stellar event. However, this year they did something that made a lot of people happy.

They had the race begin in St George’s, giving runners a new course to study and run. For those of us who live in the East End, they gave us reason to line our streets early in the morning and witness something we have not seen in two generations.

It was a near Cup Match-like atmosphere, with neighbours and other folks lining the streets to witness the hundreds of colourful riders and runners pass through. It is great to know we will have this treat every other year. Thank you Dr Gina Tucker, Mr Kim Tucker et al.

Secondly, I would like to thank the Azorean Community of Bermuda who, through various organisations, continue to support and participate in the annual Bermuda Day Parade.

Every year without fail, the Azorean community enters a vivid float and proudly display Azorean cultural music and dancing. They truly do their part to continue to weave the tapestry of Bermuda. Maybe next year we can get some free choriço or egg bread?

Feeling hot, hot, hot

Much thanks has to be given to the organisers of the annual “Passion” soca truck. Aerial photographs show thousands of Bermudians and visitors flocking in front of, beside, and behind the truck.

They demonstrated that, despite the negativity and naysayers, Bermudians are truly Caribbean in heart and soul.

I want to thank the various Gombey troupes that remind us of what Bermuda Day is truly about: Bermudians. Their beat remains uniquely hypnotic to our Island. Thank you for “carrying the swing” every year.

Finally, I wish to thank the thousands of Bermudians who line the streets of Hamilton annually to create the vibe that only Bermudians can create.

Bem, a primeira palavra que vem à mente é “Gratitude” para muitos. Então, hoje vou listar algumas das pessoas que eu sou grato a.

Em primeiro lugar gostaria de agradecer aos organizadores da Maratona Anual Dia Abbleby Bermuda. Todo ano eles colocaram em um evento estelar. No entanto, este ano eles fizeram algo que fez um monte de gente feliz.

Eles tinham o commence raça de St George’s, dando corredores um novo curso para estudar e executar. Para aqueles de nós que vivem no Oriente eles nos deram motivo para alinhar nossas ruas no início da manhã e testemunhar algo que não vimos em Duas gerações.

Foi um próximo Cup Match como a atmosfera com os países vizinhos e outras pessoas que cruzam a rua para testemunhar as centenas de pilotos e corredores coloridos passar. É ótimo saber que teremos este tratamento a cada dois anos.

Em segundo lugar, gostaria de agradecer a Comunidade açoriana das Bermudas, que através de várias organizações, continuar a apoiar e participar na parada anual do Dia das Bermudas.

Todos os anos sem falhar, a Comunidade dos Açores entra em um vívido bóia e pessoas que orgulhosamente exibir música cultural açoriana e dança. Eles realmente fazer a sua parte para continuar a tecer a tapeçaria de Bermuda.

Talvez no próximo ano podemos ter alguma Chorico ou ovo pão grátis?

Sentindo hot hot hot

Muito obrigado tem de ser dada aos organizadores da “Paixão” anual Soca Truck. Arial fotografias mostram milhares e milhares de visitantes que chegam e Bermudians: em frente, ao lado e atrás da Paixão Soca caminhão.

Eles demonstraram que, apesar da negatividade e opositores, bermudenses são verdadeiramente Caribe no coração e na alma.

Quero agradecer as várias trupes Gombey que nos lembram de que dia Bermuda é realmente sore. Bermudians.

Sua batida permanece excepcionalmente hipnótico para a nossa ilha. Obrigado por “Levar a Swing” a cada ano.
