New scholarship aims to assist Devonshire students headed to tertiary education

Devonshire Parish Council is hoping to give one deserving student a hand up to continue their undergraduate studies. It is offering a scholarship with a maximum value of $5,000 to an undergraduate student who has been accepted into an approved university or college, including the Bermuda College. The student must have lived in Devonshire for at least five years, have strong academic credentials and be able to demonstrate financial need.Scholarship chairwoman Kimberley Caines said the scholarship was open to students regardless of their area of study.“[We are] giving out the scholarship to assist student residents in a tangible way.“We are helping students because we know that pursuing further education can be expensive and we hope to alleviate some of that burden for some of our residents.“It also gives us the opportunity to meet our residents and to learn more about them and their involvements.”This is the second year the scholarship has been offered. Interested applicants should submit a completed application form by Friday, June 1. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.Application forms are available at Devonshire Parish Post Office from tomorrow or available by e-mailing dpcscholarship@gmail.com.
