Allen Richardson has resigned as first vice-president of Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB).The Royal Gazette revealed yesterday on its website that the former St David’s and St George’s Cup Match batsman had severed ties with local cricket’s governing body. When reached, Richardson confirmed that he had resigned from the post at the BCB but did not give his reasons for doing so.BCB president Lloyd Fray said Richardson’s resignation was to be discussed during last night’s executive meeting at the Board’s headquarters in Paget.“We do have our regular scheduled executive meeting this evening and most certainly we will be discussing this matter collectively,” he said.Richardson voiced his intention to run for the BCB presidency before the Board’s last annual general meeting but withdrew from the race at the last minute.“It would have been nice to be in the running, but I feel that I don’t want all the headaches that I will run into to,” he said in the aftermath of the AGM“After a while I looked at the whole picture and saw what was going on and didn’t like it and said to myself ‘do I have enough time and energy to focus on all the things that come with that job’.”It later emerged that Richardson was never nominated at the AGM which arrived just days after he took a potshot at fellow presidential candidates Clay Smith and eventual winner Fray.He said both men lacked the credentials needed to point local cricket in the right direction. However, after Fray’s landslide win, Richardson changed his tone and threw his support behind the new president.“I am happy that it is him (Fray) that was voted in,” he said. “I think cricket will benefit a lot from him and I will give him my full support.”n The 2012 cricket season officially bowls off this weekend with eight T20 matches on tap.Last year’s T20 champions St David’s host Devonshire at Lords with that match to be followed by a contest pitting Young Men’s Social Club against Flatts.Southampton Rangers lock horns with Somerset in the first match of a double-header at Southampton Oval with Cleveland taking on Warwick in the second.Leg Trappers play Western Stars at Sea Breeze Oval, to be followed by a match involving Somerset Bridge and hosts Bailey’s Bay.The remaining T20 fixtures will see St George’s take on an Evening League Select at PHC Field with hosts PHC meeting Willow Cuts in the second match.Matches will commence at 11am and 3pm.
