Cruise ship visitors fined for drugs possession
Two cruise ship passengers were fined after being caught with illegal drugs in their cabins.Jose Angel Concepcíon, 62, of Hauppauge, New York, pleaded guilty to possession of 1.5 grams of cannabis and 0.71 grams of cocaine while aboard Explorer of the Seas in Dockyard on Tuesday morning.Lindsay Gross, 29, of Brooklyn, New York, admitted possessing 13 grams of cannabis on the Celebrity cruise ship Pride, also in Dockyard, yesterday morning.Both were arrested after a sniffer dog alerted Customs officers to the illegal substances during ship inspections; both apologised profusely for their actions in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.Gross told the court: “I was very stupid. I didn’t have any intention selling it or smoking it on your Island.”Concepcíon was fined $1,600 and Gross $800 by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.
