Nahki Wells said it was encouraging to have been nominated for multiple awards during Bradford City’s prize ceremony at Coral Windows Stadium earlier this week.The Bermudian striker, who has banged in 11 goals in all competitions in his first full season as a pro, found himself thick in contention for the Under-25 Player of the Year, Bantams’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.Ultimately, Wells finished third behind winner Luke Oliver and runner-up Kyel Reid for the Bantams’ Player of the Year Award, runner-up for the Under-25 Player of the Year Award and third for the Players’ Player of the Year Award.“It’s great to be even in contention for any award for the time I’ve played which shows I have been a major asset to the team,” Wells told The Royal Gazette. “Overall I feel I have done well for myself for really only playing half of the season.”All award nominees were determined by votes taken among the club’s spectators and players.The ex-Dandy Town player, who has come on in leaps and bounds this season, has already set his sights on achieving bigger and better things at City next season.“I have my eyes set on having a much better season next season and hopefully not only myself moving on to better things but also Bradford City,” he said. “Putting my best foot forward next season is what I am focused on.”Bradford retained their English League Two status with a 1-0 home win against Macclesfield last weekend.“We are safe and have retained our League Two status which is good,” Wells said.Last month saw Bradford extend the Bermuda International’s initial one-year contract for another year.But after producing a number of outstanding performances, including a maiden pro hat-trick against Northampton Town, Wells seems destined to earn a new improved contract with City who may be keen to protect their investment.It was the first hat-trick scored by a City player in several years and one that earned Wells a deserved place in the Press Association’s Football League Team of the Week.He also netted the Bantams’ 6000th goal earlier this season.City are away to Cheltenham tomorrow.
