Bound man rescued by Police

Police are investigating the discovery of an uninjured man found wrapped in a sheet with his hands and feet tied.

A man was found dumped on the street, wrapped in a sheet, with his feet and hands tied up, late at night in Pembroke. The 50-year-old man told police he couldn’t fully remember how he came to be discarded on the sidewalk at East Park Lane, North Shore Road, at 1.40am on Saturday.Moments earlier, police had seen three men carrying a long object in suspicious circumstances; they discarded it as the officers approached, before running away. One Bermuda Alliance Pembroke MP Shawn Crockwell said that area is usually considered relatively safe, but believes the incident would have had a tragic end if police hadn’t intervened.Police describe the motives of the suspects as unclear, and have collected items for examination as they carry out their investigation.A force spokesman said last night: “The 50-year-old man, a resident from the area, fortunately was not injured.“The three suspects were not located despite a thorough search of the area, but various items have been collected that are being examined for fingerprints and DNA.“It is unclear how the man came to be in this condition as his recollection of events is vague.“It is also unclear what the motive of the three men may have been, and the police are therefore in need of help from the public to get to the bottom of this unusual incident.”Asked whether the incident is gang-related, the spokesman replied: “Detectives are looking to get more information regarding this incident and have not ruled out anything at this stage.”Mr Crockwell, whose Pembroke West constituency neighbours the spot where the incident happened, said he is familiar with the area.“This incident is extremely bizarre and especially conspicuous in this relatively safe area,” he told The Royal Gazette last night.“With such limited details it is hard to comment on what was going on but it is clear that a tragic end seemed certain.“This should concern all of us as violent crime continues its upward trend from the last quarter’s statistics.“No longer is Bermuda immune from these heinous and outrageous acts of violence and we must collectively figure out a way to stamp it out, otherwise, it will be our downfall as a Country.”Senator David Burt, the Progressive Labour Party candidate for the area concerned, Pembroke West Central, said: “This is an ongoing police investigation and so I urge anyone with any information to contact the police directly”.
