Incoming Governor mugged
George Fergusson is to take over as Bermuda's next Governor despite losing his sight in one eye in a mugging on Friday.Mr Fergusson today confirmed his plans to take up the post next month remain unchanged."What has happened has been a shock, but I'm concentrating on recovering quickly and looking forward to taking up my new role and, all being well, expecting to arrive as planned in May," he said in a statement released by Government House.British media sources reported yesterday that Mr Fergusson was attacked at about 7.30pm London time while walking in Margravine Cemetery and Park, in Hammersmith, west London.The 56-year-old diplomat, who managed to walk to a nearby hospital, lost a small amount of cash in the mugging.The man suspected of mugging Mr Fergusson is described as black, thought to be aged between 25 and 35, wearing a dark, hooded top and dark glasses and about 5ft 10in tall.Mr Fergusson, who also suffered facial fractures in the attack, has left hospital, according to Government House.
