A launch date remains to be set for Government’s Job Corps initiative, but planning is expected to finish in October, a spokeswoman said.The scheme, designed to secure employment for young workers, is based on programmes used by the US Department of Labour.Lisa Odle, CEO of the Arizona-based company Odle Management Group LLC, confirmed that her company has been contracted by the Bermuda Government.Asked to describe her business, Ms Odle said: “We’re an educational company specialising in running youth services programmes.”According to the company’s website, Odle is a contractor for the US Government’s employment scheme for disadvantaged youth.Like the US programme, Bermuda’s Job Corps is aimed at the 16 to 24 age bracket.In the last Throne Speech, the scheme was promised to “come into full effect in the second quarter of 2012”.A spokeswoman said yesterday: “The programme will launch and commence accepting students at a point to be determined.“The Government has underwritten the planning phase and the commencement of the launch is dependent on securing private sector funding.”In her Budget statement last month, Economy Minister Patrice Minors said $450,000 has been put aside for the planning of the education and training programme, which will be free and voluntary.The Ministry is to begin “outreach activities to bring private sector partners on board” following the end of planning phases in October, the spokeswoman said.“There are a number of potential partnership components to include both infrastructure development and programme delivery,” she added.Job Corps will be administered by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, but will be closely linked to the One Stop Career Centre.www.odlemanagement.com, www.jobcorps.gov.
