Well, sir, I will stick my neck on the line and let’s see if the public will agree. Mr Editor, below is a Tourism/Business proposal I gave to the Minister for his consideration into improving Bermuda’s Tourism/Business interests.National Football League (NFL)Mr Minister, this is an area where Bermuda can distinguish and separate itself from other regions and Caribbean countries by pursuing this option of business/investment and tourism opportunities. The NFL meets five times a year winter, spring, summer and fall at different cities throughout America. What an opportunity, Mr Minister, to try and entice this brand to Bermuda. What we have here are 32 billionaire owners and their teams’ corporate-supported million dollar executives and head coaches and supported by their families. These meetings normally last three days each time!The real coup is the NFL Annual Selection Meeting (commonly known as The Draft) is the six event on their schedule held the last weekend in April. A three-day weekend event with Friday broadcast live in prime time for about four to five hours, with additional live coverage the Saturday afternoon for about eight to nine hours and Sunday with an additional eight to nine hours to finish the event. All being broadcast live on ESPN Television and Radio and the NFL network. Additional live radio coverage will be provided by the cities that have ESPN affiliates in their regions for TV, radio and on the internet.Additional coverage will be provided by AOL.com, foxsports.com, CbsSportsline.com, msn.com, as well as hundreds of establish NFL Draft websites throughout America. These same outlets will also cover the NFL meetings in Bermuda whenever they happen. New markets can develop in NFL Team cities as Nashville, Tennessee, the cities in Ohio, Cincinnati and Cleveland, and the State of Missouri, gateway to the west could turn around to be a direct flight to Bermuda from cities like St. Louis and Kansas City, all promising markets to explore.Mr. Minister add the local media up and down our bread and butter Tourism targeted Eastern Seaboard American markets we will have additional coverage throughout the North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina and Florida. In other words we will blanket the East Coast. Additional NFL team fanatics travel to the draft in New York from cities across America and I’m sure they will continue to do so if we can provide a great package for them, Hotel, airfare, bus passes etc. When you add considerable sponsorship from corporate entities that sponsor these events the exposure is endless. Mr Minister, we can organise a golf tournament between the teams that can raise up to a million dollars for local charities.
