January 22, 2012Dear Sir,The PLP has blamed the word wide recession for all of Bermuda’s financial problems. Apart from collectively sticking their PLP heads in the sand and pretending that the financial mess they have got us into was none of their doing, they are also doing absolutely nothing to correct matters while the rest of the world is really reducing Government expenditure where it matters. A responsible Government, one that has been shown how out of control their spending has been, would be cutting their costs so that all the Bermudians who are suffering under their policies, actions and inaction could be supported during these difficult times.Were a general election not just around the corner, we would likely see most Government employees on a three- or four-day week and many of the hundreds of unnecessary jobs created over the last 13 years slowly disappearing. Even on a four day week many Government employees will still be better off financially than many Bermudians who have lost their jobs, working reduced hours or on reduced rates of pay. Let’s not forget that it is the private sector that pays the hundreds of millions of dollars in Government employment costs every year, including Ministers’ very healthy pay packets. Let’s get the election underway and get a responsible Government in place to try and get us out of this unholy mess we are in.TIME IS TICKINGPembroke
