Pink Ferry Route fares to change on Monday
Prices on the Pink Ferry Route will change as of January 2, the Department of Marine and Ports announced.While the cost to travel on the ferry will drop, the Department said that it will not be offering any refunds to those who purchased passes at the higher rate.When the changes come into effect, the cost of a one way fare for adults and children will fall from $5 to $3.25, while a quarterly pass for the route will fall to from $270 to $170.Students will still travel for free on the ferry, but the definition of student was changed to refer to a person less than 19-years-old and able to prove they are attending any school on a full-time basis.The new charges for other passes include:n Adult One-Day Pass: $15n Adult Three-Day Pass: $35n Adult Four-Day Pass: $44n Adult Seven-Day Pass: $56n Child One-Day Pass: $7.50n Child Three-Day Pass: $17.50n Child Four-Day Pass: $22n Child Seven-Day Pass: $28n Monthly Pass: $70Earlier this year there was a public outcry when the Department announced that it would be scaling back the Pink Route, which services Paget and Warwick, with daily service reduced and weekend and holiday service cut completely citing low ridership numbers.Government later reinstated weekend and holiday service on the route and added additional weekend service, but announced that the cost to ride the ferry would rise from $2.50 to $5 to cover the operating costs.Earlier this month, it was announced that the ferry rate would again be modified following complaints from the public and a boycott by some commuters.Ridership reportedly fell by around 50 percent on the morning and afternoon service following the price increase on November 1.
