A woman escaped a car just seconds before it was engulfed in flames in a dramatic incident on St John’s Road last night.Speaking minutes after the blaze, the visibly shaken woman said: “I don’t know what happened. I was just driving the car and then it was on fire.”Her family said that they had gone out to watch her son perform with the Places Gombey Troupe. She was reportedly attempting to start the car near the base of Cox’s Hill a little after 6.30pm when her daughter, who was standing nearby, noticed flames appear near the bottom of the vehicle. She got out of the vehicle, and seconds later the flames rose, consuming the front of the car.Her boyfriend, the car’s owner, said: “She was driving the car. She was trying to start it and the next thing she knew it was engulfed in flames. She was in the car when the fire stated.”He said that the car was around five years old and in good condition, having been licenced and insured earlier this month.“I’ve never had anything like this happen to me before,” he said. “I’m just grateful that everyone is all right.”Firefighters and police arrived at the scene and quickly extinguished the blaze before the fire could spread.
