Spread the good tidings wherever you are
Rev Betty L Furbert-Woolridge Presiding Elder of the AME ChurchFor unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11.It is indeed a pleasure to extend greetings to all of Bermuda on this beautiful Christmas day. In this yuletide season we commemorate and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who was born of the Virgin Mary, to become the Saviour of the world.Amid the hustle and bustle that can engulf us during this time of the year, I encourage you to always remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.Despite the circumstances and situations which may befall us, this is a joyous time of the year, so let us rejoice and be glad in this festive season as we celebrate the Christ child of more than 2000 years ago.He was born in lowly conditions, and rose to set a standard for humanity.A standard that exhorts us to live peacefully among one another as much as is humanly possible, expressing loving kindness, goodness and generosity beyond measure, that is pleasing to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who eventually died for the sins of the whole world reconciling men to himself. To quote the words in the song penned by Mr Colbert Pearman, “Bermuda Jewel of the sea where my heart yearns to be, where people aspire to live in harmony and be happy and free”.Bermuda, be shining jewels as you open your doors and hearts to those who may be less fortunate than you are; the homeless, the jobless, the families who have lost their loved ones this year and those who suffer from other conditions and situations not necessarily brought on by their own doings. So during this yuletide season spread the good tidings wherever you are; and wherever you go become the Good Samaritan and bring Christmas cheer into the life of someone else.On behalf of the African Methodist Episcopal Churches of Bermuda Conference we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
