Magistrate fines man $2,500 for having cannabis at cricket club

A Warwick man caught with less than a gram of cannabis in his pocket was fined $2,500 in Magistrates’ Court.Duane Hurdle, 40, of Marl Lane, was searched by police at St David’s Cricket Club after he drew the attention of a sniffer dog.Officers found a twist containing 0.9 grams of the drug in his pocket.Hurdle apologised to Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner for the offence, and was ordered to pay $1,000.However, since the club falls within an increased penalty zone, he was fined an additional $1,500, and given one month to pay.
