Threatening officers earns inmate an extra six months in prison

A prison inmate who threatened to kill corrections officers was given an extra six months on his sentence just ten days before he was due to be released from Westgate.Desmond Richardson, 22, apologised for the incident yesterday in Magistrates’ Court. He said the embarrassment of a search had caused him to lose his temper.Crown counsel Kirsty-Ann Kiellor said Richardson told four officers: “I am going to kill you all when I get out of here in four weeks I’m going to take your heads off.”The court heard that on November 20, selected inmates in the maximum security cells were chosen for searches. Richardson was seen throwing something out the cell window.Ms Kiellor said Richardson became aggressive when asked to remove his clothes, and uttered the threats after he was restrained and cuffed.Richardson, who had been in jail since June, 2010, told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that his sentence was to end on December 18.Mr Warner jailed Richardson for six months on each of the four counts, to run concurrently at the end of his present sentence.
