Cannabis found in car lands man in jail

A 40-year-old Devonshire man accused of possessing cannabis with intent to supply has been jailed for a month.Leo Richardson, of Loyal Hill Pass, was caught after a police dog took interest in his car outside the Mid Atlantic Boat Club.Police found Richardson in the club. A search uncovered 24.6 grams of cannabis in plastic twists under a napkin on the car’s dashboard.The Mid Atlantic Boat Club counts as an increased penalty zone, because of its proximity to Friendship Vale National Park.Following his arrest, a further 6.1 grams of cannabis and 0.3 grams of cannabis resin were found in Richardson’s home.A house painter, Richardson said he supports two children. He pleaded not to be jailed, telling Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner the cannabis was for personal use, but Mr Warner said the quantity carried a presumption of intent to supply.He was fined a total of $7,000, and given 30 days’ imprisonment when he appeared at Magistrates’ Court.
