An elderly woman had her bank account plundered of more than $21,000 by a woman charged in court this morning, prosecutors allege.Helene Sutcliffe, of Wellington Back Road, St George’s, is alleged to have forged letters of authorisation in order to steal the funds from 76-year-old Mildred Joan Smith.According to the charges, she presented letters claiming to be from Ms Smith to the Bank of Butterfield on five different occasions between March and July. As a result, she is alleged to have obtained a total of $2158.69 in five separate withdrawals from Ms Smith’s account.Ms Sutcliffe denied 15 charges of dishonestly obtaining money, making a false instrument and using a false instrument when she appeared at Magistrates’ Court this morning.Prosecutor Kirsty-Ann Kiellor did not give any details relating to the charges. However, according to the electoral roll, the alleged victim and defendant resided at the same address.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo issued $15,000 bail to the accused who must return to court later this month for a trial date to be fixed.
