Women charged with importing cannabis

Two American visitors were remanded into custody this morning on charges they conspired to import more than 2.5kg of cannabis resin.Alloah Jatan Releford, 23, from Temple, Georgia, and Latoya Nicole Powell, 27, from Marietta, Georgia, were charged with conspiring with others not before the court to import cannabis to the Island.Because the matter must be heard in Supreme Court, neither of the defendants was required to enter a plea.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded them both into custody until October 25, when the matter will be mentioned.Also appearing in Magistrates’ Court was Johnny Nunez, a 28-year-old cruise ship worker from New York charged with possessing 5g of cannabis aboard the Explorer of the Seas.Nunez pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a controlled drug. Mr Warner issued Nunez a 12-month conditional discharge for the offence.
