Masterworks adds spice to fundraising efforts
Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is holding a chilli cook-off to raise funds for its art education programmes. As a side benefit, one cook will win the bragging rights to the Island’s tastiest chilli.“Close to 2,000 children take part in our art programmes,” said Robyn DeSilva, Masterworks’ education director.“That is through things like our summer art camp, our Super Saturdays and free education programmes.”Although this year saw an increase in the popularity of the summer art camp, Miss DeSilva said she was definitely aware that some parents had trouble paying the fees. Therefore, part of the money raised from the chilli cook-off will go towards summer camp bursaries so that more children can attend. “Through the chilli cook-off, we are trying to bring the community together,” said Miss DeSilva. “We are going to find out who makes the best chilli. Several members of the Masterworks’ staff, including collections manager, Elise Outerbridge, will be entering the chilli cook-off, along with the general public. There has been some fierce competition among staff members over whose chilli is better.” Miss DeSilva continued: “We are asking people to pre-enter to make sure we have enough soup cauldrons to keep every thing hot.” Tickets for the event are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages five to 12 years old.Tickets include dinner and a glass of wine or soft drink. In addition to the food there will also be entertainment including a performance by students from Heron Bay Primary School. Prizes for the cook-off include free art lessons and workshops at Masterworks and a gift certificate to Silk restaurant. The chilli cook-off is scheduled for October 21, with food served between 5.30pm and 8.30pm. To enter, e-mail edumworks[AT]logic.bm or telephone 299-4000.
