Post Office fails to serve

July 20, 2011Dear Sir,I would like to add my comments to the letter published in today’s paper concerning returned mail. I too would like to find out if this is in fact legal or just Bermuda Post Office officialdom policy? For the last six months or so I have had numerous articles of mail returned to sender — ie not delivered to me — for the most inane reasons. There have been occasions of mail not being delivered at all, including wedding invitations that I know the sender (mother of the bride) called to get the full and correct address for. However the latest event has left me very angry and I have visited my local post office and placed calls to the “Quality Assurance” office of the Post Office, to date, no response. For the last six months, serious financial documents from a bank in the US have been returned to them with address unknown stickers. This is despite the fact that we have resided in this residence for over 30 years and address has not changed and up to now have been receiving documents from this US Bank just fine! For the record, the US Bank has the name, house number, street, postcode and country all correct, their only mistake was the Parish in which they put “Southampton Beach” — Really folks? When everything else is correct could we not just figure that out? I am appalled that our mail is being dealt with in such a fashion! I wonder if in the US this would/could be considered tampering with mail, a federal offence. I, like many Bermudians, no longer trust our mail system. They should be ashamed of themselves for such poor inefficient service that I consider borders on the illegal!ELIZABETH TITTERTONSouthampton
