The proposed Park Hyatt resort has reportedly received numerous objections from concerned groups and members of the public.The Royal Gazette understands that both the Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce (BEST) and the Old Military Road Taskforce, a group of area residents, have submitted formal objections to the proposed resort.The estimated $300 million resort project, spearheaded by developer Carl Bazarian, will be made up of around 40 buildings on the former Club Med site including a 100-room hotel, multiple villas, condominiums and amenities such as restaurants and spa facilities.In Planning documents, the developers said the planned resort was designed to fit in with St George’s, but at a recent press conference BEST chairman Stuart Hayward called the plans “starkly un-Bermudian.”And residents of the Old Military Road area expressed concern about off-site sewage treatment and water desalinisation facilities, to be built near their homes.In a recent public meeting, representatives from the developer said the sewage facilities would be state of the art and not cause noise or odour issues.But while some groups have criticised the development, others have offered their support to the resort project.Sharon Jacobs of the St George’s Foundation said yesterday they support the development, which they feel will help rejuvenate the East End.“We support the development, and we look forward to working with them,” she said.“We feel that this is something that can really breathe life into this town.”
