Local kickboxer Sentwali Woolridge will travel to New York next week to fight American Jaques Priera at the popular Muay Thai event on Friday nightWoolridge, representing Bermuda Sanshou Association (BSA), will be accompanied by Garon Wilkinson, who will act as coach and corner man, as he takes on a member of Anderson’s Martial Arts out of New York.The veteran fighter was only informed recently that he would feature in the event and as such stepped up his training for what he considers a huge opportunity.Wilkinson said he was interested to see how his man would fare against a much taller Priera.“This is the first time that a BSA athlete has fought in a non-tournament event outside of Bermuda and the first time that any of the athletes have fought without headgear,” said Wilkinson.“This is certainly an opportunity to make an impression in the pursuit of becoming a professional in the near future.”“Sentwali and Priera’s bout will me a light-middleweight bout, with the agreed fighting weight being 165 pounds,” added Wilkinson.“Priera is definitely the taller fighter at a height of 6’2”, compared to Woolridge’s 5’10” so he will have to make the necessary adjustments to fight a bigger opponent.”Woolridge has been a member of BSA since 2006 and has represented Bermuda internationally in China, Brazil, Canada, the US, and Argentina, medalling on numerous occasions at international championships.He has been showcased in both BSA’s “FightFest” events and Jiketsu Martial Production’s “Sanshou Showdown”.”The New York fight will be a three-round K-1 Kickboxing rules match and, unlike his other 12 previous full contact matches, there will be no headgear or shin protection wornThe July 22 event will take place at Broad St. Ballroom in Manhattan, with the weigh-in taking place the previous day.The event will also feature an eigh-man tournament for 154-pounders where only one man will remain standing and be crowned champion.It will televised on Sports Network New York (SNY) on August 13, 20 and 27th and will also be shown on Bermuda Sports Network (BSN).
