Lambe to face Cup finalists
Trialist Reggie Lambe could find himself up against former England defender Jonathan Woodgate when Newport County face Stoke City in a pre-season friendly today.Woodgate, who signed for Stoke this week, is likely to be one of the stars in show when Welshman Tony Pulis brings his FA Cup finalists to Newport Stadium.County boss Anthony Hudson will use the glamour fixture to take another look at ex-Ipswich Town winger Lambe, who impressed in a recent 4-1 win at Merthyr Town.Hudson, a long-time friend of Bermuda Hogges co-owner Paul Scope, said: “Pre-season is well underway and I’m pleased at how things have gone.“(Stoke) will test us to the limit which will be an excellent workout for everyone concerned.“Stoke are a very physical team and they do that very well. That is the type of test I want my players to go through to defend set-plays which again Stoke are very good at.“So I’m looking forward to seeing how we handle this sort of pressure.”Lambe made four Carling Cup starts and two Championship substitute appearances during his time at Ipswich. He also made seven substitute appearances on loan at Bristol Rovers at the end of last term.
