Bank boost for squash juniors
Bank of Bermuda Foundation is to plough tens of thousands of dollars into the Island’s junior squash team over the next six months.The Foundation are sponsoring the team’s participation in this week’s Caribbean Junior Championships in Guyana and the Canadian Junior Open Championships in December.“The support from Bank of Bermuda Foundation has given a massive boost to the high performance part of our junior programme,” said Patrick Foster, the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association’s Director.“Sending kids that have worked so hard for many years to attend two prestigious squash events without any financial restrictions gives the whole sport a tremendous lift and will spur the younger players onto even greater heights.“The BSRA and its players are very grateful to the Bank of Bermuda Foundation for its support of squash over many years.”A 13-strong Bermuda squad flew to Guyana on Wednesday for the Caribbean competition, with Micah Franklin tipped to take the individual title in his final year in the age group.The group will also compete as a team against Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Bahamas, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, OECS and Barbados.The event runs from today to July 15, and the team will be coached by Andrew Mount, the BSRA assistant director of squash.
