Rude airport staff
June 16, 2011Dear Sir,While returning this week from Bermuda, my husband and I were once again subjected to the rude and unprofessionalism of the airline staff at LF Wade Intl.I hold preferred status with one of the airlines which guarantees me an upgrade along with that of my companion if seats are available. On checking in, I was given three different reasons, all erroneous, why my husband was not eligible for upgrade by a “supervisor”:1) Because our return flight was a different class than our arrival flight;2) Because we were travelling on a different confirmation number; and finally3) Because the “station manager in Bermuda” does not give complimentary upgrades for companions on flights departing from Bermuda. This “supervisor” told me that once I had cleared security, customs and immigration, I could call my airline’s preferred traveler number and take the matter up with them. I did and Delta personnel informed me that this “supervisor” was mistaken and would place my husband on the upgrade list. This Delta employee whom I called, asked to speak with the “supervisor” who became belligerent once asked for her name and proceeded to tell him that the “station manager” does not grant complimentary companion upgrades from Bermuda – period. There were nine empty seats in First Class on that flight. This “supervisor” not only refused to upgrade my husband but went one step further and left the gate, crossed the tarmac and boarded the plane just to inform me of same. Nice touch! My husband and I have since been contacted by Delta personnel who are looking further into this matter. Just another example of why tourism is in the gutter.SHEILA SMITHFalmouth, Massachusetts
