Follow your conscience

June 16, 2011Dear Sir,I relax by sitting off, lying off and exercising. During those times ideas come to my mind and now I write on one topic. This is my short feeling on the continuous killings going on around our beautiful island. To those involved in maiming and killing of others, some of you are going to ask sooner than later ‘why did I do it’, while others will say the same in ten, 20, 30 years time ‘why did I do it’! More will be said like: “I saw the results of others being involved in gangs but still kept going around! Was it worth it? Why did I attack my brothers, my cousins and my in-laws like that? They are my neighbours, former school mates; we played together in yard ball, club ball & jumped overboard together. Could we had resolved our differences in other ways? Did we try hard enough? Why didn’t we talk our problems away? Could we had shared the pot of gold, still been OK and still not have to restrict where we travelled in this super small place Bermuda! We can’t even travel to other countries because of our involvements. We’ve hurt so many people who love us”!I ask what’s your answer to these comments. Anything good worth having is worth the extra effort going for. Those maiming and killing will say even more in times of reflection like: “People reached out to us regularly to try & help us talk our differences away instead of shooting our brothers away. But we didn’t listen, we were so caught up in emotion thus couldn’t see the errors of our ways”.‘I say to my Brothers & Sisters, break away now! The good life is not always sweet, but it gets better by working at it.’My Brothers & Sisters, please dig deeper into yourselves, reach out more to those showing they want to help, make peace with your Maker, pray to God for guidance. Do you hear that little voice inside of you? Listen to it, act on it, it’s your conscience, God’s your conscience. Stop the killing.ROGER LAMBERTCity of Hamilton
