Tourism unveils mobile app
Tourists heading to Bermuda can now do their research and create their own personal itineraries on their mobile devices.The launch of the ‘Bermuda Travel and Vacation Guide’ is the latest marketing initiative from the Department of Tourism. Tourism Minister Patrice Minors revealed the details of the new mobile application created for a cellphone or tablet device, in the House of Assembly. It is now available to download free of charge for the iPhone or iPod Touch.Ms Minors said in a ministerial statement: “What better way to showcase all the wonderful tourism attributes of Bermuda than with the launch of this new app. The app encourages first-time visitors to learn about Bermuda’s history and key attractions and return travellers to discover the destination in new ways.”The app features an interactive map enabling users to browse Bermuda’s top destinations. Users can then share their favourite spots with others via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail. Ms Minors said: “Travellers often rely on their mobile devices to quickly access information about the places they are visiting.“It is envisaged that the Bermuda Travel and Vacation Guide app will help people discover what venues and amenities … and other activities that the Island has to offer, and then share this information and experience with others in their social networks.”Ms Minors urged everyone to download the new application, adding: “Please share it with your friends, families and associates and let the viral Bermuda trip planning begin.”She said this was the first in a series of mobile applications that iCrossing, the Department of Tourism’s global digital marketing agency, will develop and build for Bermuda. The company is also currently drawing up a two-year plan for how the Department of Tourism can “leverage SMS, mobile search and display campaigns.”
