Pick up behind your dogs
June 7, 2011Dear Sir,When walking my dogs in the Botanical Gardens early on Sunday morning, I narrowly avoided stepping in a large pile of dog mess. I was quite horrified by this, especially since the offending mess was about three feet away from a bin and no more than ten feet away from a poo bag dispenser. Being a responsible dog owner, I picked up the mess in a bag and placed it in the bin; why did the person whose dog made the mess not do this? Whenever I take my dogs out I always have poo bags in my pockets and in the car, and would never think of not picking up after them. There is absolutely no excuse for this, especially where bags are provided free of charge.Nobody wants to see dog mess all over the grass, let alone step in it. People should realise that irresponsible behaviour like this could result in dogs being banned from the Botanical Gardens. There are few enough places for dogs to walk off the road and this would be a great loss. The Botanical Gardens is a beautiful place for all to enjoy, and should be kept free of litter of every kind. We are very fortunate that we still have such a beautiful place accessible to all. In the UK, some local authorities fine dog owners for not picking up mess, and have wardens that enforce the regulations. Perhaps Bermuda should follow the UK’s example?DISGRUNTLED POO-PICKERPag
