Shares of Butterfield Bank surged 10.4 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

The bank gained $1.70 to close on $18 as 200 shares changed hands.

Butterfield’s US-listed shares moved in the opposite direction, sliding $1.08, or 5.96 per cent, to close on $17.04 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Telecoms group One Communications Ltd jumped on heavy trade, gaining 20 cents, or 5.3 per cent, to close on $4, as 100,000 shares traded.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 79.2 points, or 5.55 per cent, to close on 1,506.52.

Trading volume totalled 100,200 shares, while turnover was $403,600.

The BSX Insurance Index gained ground, climbing 5.34 points, or 0.46 per cent, to close on 1,157.17.
