Inflation falls to 2.4 %

The rate of inflation fell slightly in April as consumers paid 2.4 percent more than they did a year earlier for goods and services included in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).Figures released by the Department of Statistics today show the annual rate of inflation fell from 2.5 percent in March 2011.Between March and April this year, prices rose 1.3 percent. A basket of goods and services that cost $100 in April 2006 cost $116.60 in April.The health and personal care sector, which increased 8.2 percent year-on-year, was the largest contributor to the increase in the CPI.
