A 20-year-old Hamilton Parish man was fined $2,000 in Magistrates' Court after he admitted assaulting his aunt and sister.Keiron Spencer pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing bodily harm and one count of acting in a threatening manner.Crown counsel Tawana Tannock told the court that at around 5.25pm on Wednesday, Spencer came to the home he shared with his family and asked his mother for the keys to a motorcycle.She refused because he didn't have a valid driver's licence and appeared drunk.Spencer became angry and a fight broke out in which he injured his aunt and sister, choking one and hitting the other.Officers arrived on scene but Spencer refused to calm down.He allegedly told officers: “This is a family matter. You cannot arrest me in my house. I know the law.”The officers arrested Spencer for assault and threatening behaviour.Spencer yesterday apologised for wasting the court's time.“I can't even explain it. It was just one of them days,” he said.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner responded: “One of them days you get drunk and assault people? One of these days I'm going to send you to Westgate.”The court heard that Spencer had previously been convicted for trespassing and possessing a bladed article.Duty counsel Kenville Savoury asked for leniency, saying the incident was caused by alcohol and the defendant did not have a history of violence.Mr Warner fined Spencer $1,000 for each count of assault, offering no additional sentence for the charge of acting in a threatening manner.
