Sims hits top form at Pro-Am
Bermuda pro Michael Sims put together by far the best round of his season, and one of the best in his professional career, when he fired a six-under par 66 at the Nationwide Tour’s Charity Pro-Am in Carolina yesterday.At the end of the day he was in a tie for 12th, just six shots behind the leaders, in a tournament which sees the pros player on three different courses over three days with the final round tomorrow where the Bermudian could contend for the largest pay cheque since joining the tour.What was most impressive in yesterday’s round at the par-72 Bright’s Creek course was the fact that he finished the day number one in hitting greens in regulation not normally his strength.After shooting a three-under par on Thursday at the Thornton Club, he now stands at nine-under.His sizzling round yesterday included seven birdies and just one bogey.Today he takes on the Carolina CC knowing that another good round could put him in contention for a top five finish.Leading the tournament ar England’s Greg Owen and USA’s Travis Hampshire, both on 15-under-par 128.The tournament is offering $600,00 in priize-money with the winner picking up $108,000Tomorrow’s final round will be played at Thornton.
