Fairmont Hamilton hotel boss Jon Crellin resigns

The general manager of The Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel has resigned after nearly five years in the job.Jonathan Crellin will call it quits at the end of next month as he has decided to return to his native Boston with his family.Mr Crellin is keeping tight-lipped about what the future holds for him other than saying he will take up “a leadership position in the hospitality industry.”However, Mr Crellin has vowed to continue to fly the flag for the Island by wearing his pink Bermuda shorts.Mr Crellin, who is the deputy chairman of the Bermuda Tourism Board, was named Hotelier of the Year for 2009 by the Bermuda Hotel Association.Mr Crellin said: “I can confirm that I have resigned as general manager and I’ll be returning to Boston, where I come from, with my family on June 30, to pursue a leadership position in the hospitality industry.“Working at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess for nearly five years has been a great chapter in my career and I will have many fond memories of our time on the Island.”Mr Crellin said it was “a personal choice” to leave his job as he wanted to pursue the next step in his career in Boston.He said he was “considering a number of options” on the job front, but dismissed rumours that he would not be working for Bermuda’s Department of Tourism.However, Mr Crellin said: “I’m looking forward to wearing my pink shorts in Boston and to supporting Bermuda and the Fairmont Hamilton Princess for many years to come.”Mr Crellin added: “Fairmont has a comprehensive succession plan in place for all management positions and they expect to announce my replacement in the near future.”Before moving to Bermuda, Mr Crellin previously worked for Omni and Hyatt hotels in Boston and was the general manager of the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel in Boston.
