The time has come
May 6, 2011Dear Sir,I think it is about time, now that the two parties have decided to become one, that we seriously evaluate our democratic right to challenge the Progressive Labour Party and its record over the last ten years of governing this island. I also humbly suggest that we give the disenchanted PLP members a viable choice of party affiliation as no one in their right mind could be pleased with the Government’s performance that has placed us in such disrepute and made us the laughing stock of our tourists and probably a good part of the worldWhat do we have in our Premier? A poised, unruffled, smiling, eloquent lady. What else do we have, or rather what don’t we have? We don’t have a leader who will suffer and sacrifice along with her people. Showing her colours by this selfish decision, tells us all. She has led us into a dire state of economic proportions, causing untold personal suffering and distress. We don’t have an administrative economic structure, where we feel there is a solid, well-thought out plan to give us confidence that we are on the right road to recovery to take us out of this economic dilemma. A lady that defies all logic and gives some of her ministers portfolios about which they seem to have little or no knowledge. We sit as we have for years on a gold mine of opportunity, facing some very strong competition from other jurisdictions, but with the right kind of common sense good taste and elegant, quality service, the Island itself will sell itself and we its people will do the rest. So, I think the right time has come when we should call a vote of “no confidence” in this Government, and perhaps put forward an alliance of all political persuasions to do what is best for Bermuda. To ask not “What’s in it for me?” but “What’s best for Bermuda?”To come together as one and stop the petty bickering. This could be a great new beginning for our recovery, welfare and happiness, and we could earn back the respect and admiration that this lovely little island once enjoyed all over the world.DIANA WILLIAMSPembroke
