Nahki Wells remains upbeat despite being released by Carlisle United and is confident of his ability to make the grade at another professional English side.Wells, 20, was unable to convince United manager Greg Abbott he was worth an extended stay at Brunton Park and was shown the club’s exit doors earlier this week.Disappointed but undeterred, he will now head home to Bermuda for a short period of rest and recuperation before returning to the UK where he still hopes to fulfil his football ambitions.It is understood he has attracted the interest of at least two lower league English teams who are keen to run the rule over the talented striker before next season.“Of course I’m disappointed, I really enjoyed my time at Carlisle and I’m thankful for the opportunity they gave me,” said Wells.“But I know I have other options and I’m almost guaranteed (a contract) at another pro club. Sooner or later I’ll have to decide what path to take and which club to go to.”By his own admission, the ex-Dandy Town player endured a frustrating five months in Cumbria.In the absence of a reserve team fixture programme his chances to impress were restricted to a handful of friendlies and just three first team substitute appearances.But the amiable youngster isn’t bitter about his first taste of the unforgiving pro game and will use the rejection to fuel his fire to succeed elsewhere.“I’m getting over the fact I’ve been released and I have plenty of people supporting me,” said Wells, who was left out of United’s squad for their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final victory over Brentford at Wembley.“This is football and I’ll take it on the chin and use it as a learning experience.“There weren’t any reserve games and it was frustrating not playing regular football.“I made three appearances but I wasn’t playing in the right position, and I don’t believe Carlisle saw the best of me. It was definitely a great experience though, to be a professional footballer, train everyday and travel the country. I love England. Without a doubt I’ll be back in six week’s time for pre-season.”Wells, who was recommended to United by former Bradford City winger Mark Ellis who coached him at the International Academic & Soccer Academy has ruled out playing for Bermuda Hogges this summer but hopes to train with their squad to maintain his sharpness.“I haven’t played as much football in the past five months as I’d have wanted. I’ll probably take two weeks off, rest my body, see my family, and then start my pre-season early so I’m ahead of everybody else,” he added.“I intend to train with the Bermuda Hogges to stay sharp and I’m sure they will allow me, but I won’t be playing for them under any circumstances.”
