Agency creates opportunities for Bermuda models

Ever dreamed of gracing the catwalks of London, Paris and Milan?Phenomenal People is to launch The Face of Bermuda model search next Saturday. The charity has teamed up with UK model management agency, McCallion Brown.Charity president Margaret Giloth believes the search is just the ticket for Bermudians to gain exposure in the competitive world of international modelling. She said the photos of selected models will be posted on the McCallion Brown website. The move may lead to Bermudians being presented to London-area agents including top company, Models 1.“This is a big deal for Bermuda’s young people,” said Mrs Giloth.“I want to do something to stimulate excitement for our youth and to present them with real opportunities to do what they love.”Mrs. Giloth has been actively involved in the fashion and modelling industry since the age of 15.“As a result of the early exposure I received in my high school days, I went on to own and manage boutiques, hair salons and etiquette schools in three countries. I’ve directed and produced fashion extravaganzas and entertainment events in Bermuda, the US and the UK.“While I’ve taken a break from producing over the past five years, I still travel to the UK a couple of times a year to participate in big events produced by my close friend and managing director of McCallion Brown Modelling & Management, Brian Brown.”Celebrity hairdresser Brian Brown teamed up with choreographer Lee McCallion to start the agency.“Brian likes to work with and encourage new talent and is constantly searching for models locally and abroad,” Mrs Giloth said. “[He] will be in Bermuda to help conduct the model search.”People of all ages are invited to attend the casting.“Brian and I are collaborating on a few big ideas that will have multiple benefits for the community such as youth development, merchant showcasing, spotlighting local design talent, and even promoting tourism all through the exciting medium of fashion,” said Mrs Giloth.“I’m even looking to produce a sophisticated fashion drama troupe of 40-plus year old male and female models for hat shows, tea parties and church events.”The model search will begin at 10 am at X-Clusive Creations Visual Arts Centre on King Street in Hamilton.Models should show up without makeup. They should bring a current photo and be prepared to be photographed. There is a $15 registration fee.Said Mrs Giloth: “Don’t second guess yourself, because most successful fashion models will state that they never thought they had the look.”
