Lambe sweats on contract fate

Reggie Lambe

Reggie Lambe’s Ipswich Town future has been decided with the winger set to learn his contract fate in the next few days.Town manager Paul Jewell has spoken to Lambe’s agent about whether he will be rewarded a new deal when his contract expires at the end of the season.Jewell has offered contracts to six first and second-year professionals and wants to speak to Lambe, who is on loan at Bristol Rovers, before the club makes an announcement.“I spoke to Reggie Lambe’s agent on Monday evening,” said Jewell. “He’s at Bristol Rovers and enjoying himself there. I need to speak to Reggie before we make an announcement.“Jamie Griffiths and David Cawley are both injured. That’s a difficult situation that we have to deal with which is a bit more complicated than the others.”Lambe, who has played five matches for Town this term, has also made three substitute appearances for Rovers since joining them on loan for the remainder of the season.Another Bermuda player sweating on whether he will he handed a new contract is Nahki Wells, who has yet to push through into the Carlisle side as he enters the final few weeks of the contract he signed in January.United boss Greg Abbott said there is no movement on contracts for those players coming to the end of their current deals.“We’ve just started talks and will present the players with some idea of what we’re thinking,” he said. However, Abbott has been warned he could be making a big mistake if he allows striker Wells to leave the club. The man who recommended Wells to Carlisle, coach Mark Ellis, told The Royal Gazette last month he had sounded out rival clubs about Wells in case he leaves United in the summer.Ellis, a former Bradford team-mate of Abbott, said the Carlisle boss should think long and hard before casting the young international striker adrift.“Carlisle have to be careful, because if they release him he could go and do well for someone else,” said Ellis.“I’ve already talked to a couple of clubs to make them aware of Nahki.“If they take a chance on him it could look bad for Carlisle, so they have to make sure they make the right decision.”
