Do the right thing

April 20, 2011Dear Sir,I have been to the Belmont property a number of times over the years for both dinner and brunch at the “Blu Bar & Grill” restaurant and have very, very pleasant memories. I hope that the incident detailed below does not permanently impact upon my desire to return. On Sunday, February 13, 2011, as my son was driving along Middle Road, adjacent to the Belmont property, our brand new car (less than one month old) was struck by a golf ball! After stopping and inspecting the damage he proceeded to the Belmont Hills Golf Club to inform them of the incident and to gather information regarding liability and repairs. My son described the staff as being somewhat sympathetic, unfortunately no one from Belmont Golf Club actually came out to inspect the damages done to our car.Instead, they indicated that my son would need to speak to the golf manager, Gary Burgess and would need to present an estimate for the cost of repairs. Within a week, I delivered an estimate and left a voicemail explaining such. A few days later I called Mr. Burgess again, at which time he indicated that the hotel was not liable (now there's a surprise) but that he would see what he could do for me. I have not heard anything since.I don't know which is more frustrating – having to repair damages incurred through no fault of ours (on a new car at that), or not having received the promised response from management. So, this is to ask that you tell me something. Anything. But please don't ignore me! Please don't tell me (again) that you will take it to management. In recessionary times such as these, when customer service is of utmost importance to attracting and retaining consumers (local and visitors alike), doing the right and honorable thing can and will speak volumes.Let this serve as a notice to the travelling public in Bermuda that Belmont currently believes that it is not liable for certain damages emerging from its property. My question is, how much and what type of damage is required in order for you to be responsive? As investors from overseas, do you care about the safety of Bermudians and visitors or are you just in it for the money?MICHAEL WILLIAMSHamilton Parish
