A most idiotic time table
April 11, 2011Dear Sir,I have just seen the revised ferry time table for the Paget/Warwick route. It is the most idiotic time table I have ever seen. Are we or are we not attempting to revive tourism? If we are, why cut one of the things that most attracts visitors to Bermuda? We have allowed the roads to become too dangerous for them to ride bikes but they still admired, used and enjoyed our public transport system. Now it has been decimated. In April, 2007 there were 26 ferries each way from Darrell’s Wharf to Hamilton on a week day, now there are 13 – exactly half. Someone leaving Darrell’s Wharf at 10.20 in the morning cannot get back there by ferry until 3.25 in the afternoon. It does not particularly matter to me as a resident. I have a car and if I need to go to Hamilton, which I do less and less, I can drive there and add to the congestion.Even worse, there appears to be no weekend services at all on this route. I cannot believe it. I have been accustomed to seeing the ferries going by all weekend with many visitors on board, even during the winter. This will be devastating to all the small guest houses in the Paget and Warwick area which have been the backbone of our tourism all through the recent hard times.I sincerely hope the Government will rethink and find savings elsewhere.MARGARET LLOYDWarwick
